Trustonic to Provide TEEs Security for Meizu Devices.

Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) developer Trustonic has announced a partnership with smartphone maker Meizu to have its technology implemented into the latter’s devices. The agreement will begin with Meizu’s MX4 Pro devices, which are now on sale in China.

Speaking in a press release, Trustonic CEO Ben Cade pointed to the ease of use of the Trustonic open TEE platform, asserting that “Trustonic’s partnership with MEIZU is underpinned by the need for simpler, quicker and safer device experiences that enhance the digital lives of users.”

On Meizu’s part, the main interest here is in securing the data associated with their devices’ fingerprint scanning. Meizu CTO Liang Dongming said that the partnership “fills the blank of the fingerprint recognition and safety payment for Chinese smartphones.”

This is a key concern now that online commerce giant Alibaba has acquired a major stake in Meizu. It appears that Alibaba intends to use Meizu devices as perhaps the primary platforms for its Alipay mCommerce service, and that means that the relatively unknown smartphone maker (compared with the likes of Samsung and Apple) is going to have its work cut out for it in proving that it can offer the kind of security needed for mobile commerce. Clearly, with Trustonic technology securing its users biometric data, Meizu feels it is up to the task.
