Top five Indian smartphone brands in 2014

BANGALORE: Smartphones have only 40% of the market share in India, when compared to basic phones, according to the second quarter results of 2014.
This means that there is a tremendous opportunity for indigenous brands to register growth. Here are the top five Indian smartphone manufacturers who performed well in 2014:

Micromax: Micromax is a leading Indian smartphone brand that earned huge profit in the year 2014. They got Hugh Jackman and other popular celebrities for promoting their smartphones thus becoming the second most popular smartphone brand in India, only next to Samsung. Some of the popular Smartphones released by Micromax in 2014 include Unite 2 A106, Canvas Knight A350 and Canvas Nitro.

Karbonn: Even though Karbonn is considered second to Micromax, the popularity of their smartphones got a big boost during the year 2014. Karbonn is the second best Indian smartphone brand, but the gap between Micromax and Karbonn has widened significantly. Some of the popular smartphones that Karbonn brought out in 2014 are Karbonn Sparkle V, Karbonn Titanium Octane and Karbonn Titanium S2.

Lava: This Indian smartphone brand is a real fighter as it is inching closer to beat Karbon to acquire the second spot in the race to become the best smartphone manufacturer in India. Lava successfully launched a series of new smartphone under the brand name Iris during the year 2014. Some of the bestselling Lava smartphones are Iris X5, Iris Pro 30 and Iris 500.

Celkon Mobiles: Is a budding Indian smartphone manufacturing company located in Hyderabad. The company is currently involved in the development of mobile phones and Tablets in addition to other wireless technology solutions. In 2014, Celkon launched popular smartphone such as Campus A15K, Millennium Glory Q5 and Millennium Ultra Q500.

Spice: Spice is one of the oldest smartphone manufacturers in India, founded in 1997, but until now they have not had a chance to command the market. Spice got an encouraging pat from Google as the tech giant came forward in 2014 with a deal to manufacture Android One smartphones. The company is currently trying their luck with Android One Dream UNO Mi-498, which is currently available for Rs. 6299.
